$20 billion GDP target for 2028 met ahead of schedule, says PM Mickoski

New data released from the State Statistical Office shows the country’s gross domestic product grew by 3.8% in both 2024 and 2025, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced Friday. He said the revised figures mean his government has met its USD 20 billion economic goal ahead of schedule, which has prompted them to aim for USD 22 billion.

Speaking to the press after a groundbreaking ceremony for a new wastewater system in Jurumleri, the prime minister said the new SSO data was “bad news” for his political opponents.

“With all these projects we are working on and these positive indicators that are emerging, we have bad news for the opposition,” Mickoski said.

The PM added that his opponents wanted the country to remain in the stagnant and damaged economic state they had left behind. He said his government’s stabilization efforts over the past two years were finally showing results.

PM Mickoski said 2024 GDP growth estimates rose from 3% to 3.8% and 2025 estimates were adjusted upward from 3.5% to 3.8%.

“But more importantly, our goal as a government was for the nominal GDP at the end of this government’s term to be USD 20 billion. This was already achieved in 2025,” Mickoski pointed out.

So this year we are growing even faster. Now we have a new ambition. We are aiming for USD 22 billion, but let’s see how this year turns out, adds the PM.

Mickoski said industrial production also rose by 2.4% in September, despite the global energy crisis.
