Parliament Speaker urges parties to reach a consensus, and then he will schedule elections

Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi has told political party leaders to reach a consensus on the date of the snap parliamentary elections, after which he will fulfill his constitutional obligation to schedule elections.

In fact, with this statement, Xhaferi responded to the President of the State Election Commission (SEC) Oliver Derkoski who previously said that he believes that there is no reason to schedule a SEC session due to the fact that in order to continue the entire election process, a solution with a new election date.

“We know who schedules elections according to the Constitution. As Parliament Speaker, I scheduled the elections on April 12, when I was informed that there was a consensus. Let the parties reach a consensus and I will fulfill my constitutional obligation,” Xhaferi said.
