The Agency for Protection of the Right to Free Access to Public Information, in less than a year of operation, increased the number of institutions holders of information by 146 and currently their number is 1,403, Agency’s director Plamenka Bojcheva told news conference on Monday.
She added that the key activity is the trainings and consultations with the persons responsible for handling access to public information and thus increasing the transparency of public institutions.
“The novelty in the work of the Agency is the establishment of misdemeanor commission. An opportunity has been introduced to prepare sanctions against those information holders who did not act upon the given access to information or upon a decision of the Agency. In the first two months of the year, the Agency acted on more than 750 cases, and at the same time we are currently working on newly 600 received complaints,” Bojcheva said.
