The demands of official Sofia are absolutely unacceptable for us, but we must find a solution through dialogue, said the president of the Macedonian side of the joint historical commission.
In a conversation with Bulgarian TV Europe, Professor Gjorgiev reveals that the main obstacle in the work of historians is the term “common history”, i.e. its interpretation.
He underlines that the Macedonian public is disappointed and angry about Bulgaria’s move. The blockade brought its consequences, says Gjorgiev, and will make a problem in the work of the Commission.
“Undoubtedly, that pressure from the public is transmitted to the members of the Commission. Of course, politically so far we have not had any form of pressure from any factor. But the pressure from the public is really great. There is strong pressure to stop the work of the Commission because Bulgaria’s demands are absolutely unacceptable to the Macedonian people and Macedonia,” said Gjorgiev.
