Violence against women is up by 30 percent in 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, said Minister of Health Venko Filipche on the occasion of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

“The COVID-19 crisis has hit all healthcare systems. Long periods of isolation during lockdowns have resulted in increased domestic violence. We register such cases every day at the online psychiatric clinic and keep increasing the team in size,” said Filipche.

“My colleagues are tirelessly working on this issue. In an inclusive process together with institutions and civil society organizations, he adds, we have opened three shelters for victims of violence in Skopje, Tetovo and Kumanovo,” said Filipche.
