We are creating dialogue not conflict with Bulgaria, calm and readiness for cooperation instead of nationalism for domestic use and fresh isolation, says Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in an interview with MIA.

Zaev says communication with Sofia continues towards finding a solution, adding bilateral issues should not be an obstacle to the European processes, while elections in Bulgaria should not prevent the settlement of bilateral differences.

He expects Special Representative Vlado Buchkovski, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani and Bulgarian counterpart Ekaterina Zaharieva to resume their contacts in finding a solution after the New Year’s holidays.

“Therefore, we should demonstrate European values during this challenging time. Dialogue instead of conflict. Calm and readiness for cooperation instead of nationalism for domestic use and fresh isolation. Both countries have an obligation towards the Macedonian and Bulgarian citizens to deliver European future while adhering to the European values,” says Zaev.

According to him, North Macedonia loses time by the failure to approve the negotiating framework, but the European Union is the biggest loser.

“This is a blow to the Union’s foundations. We will fight because our children expect us to win the 21st-century battles, they want to be part of the EU and be safe and stable as they are now within NATO. We will not allow that certain circles roam around the country. No, the country is protected by NATO and this state finally has a title deed. I lead this battle that is a common one for Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Vlachs, Roma, Serbs, Bosniaks and all others,” says Zaev.
