NSDP party leader Tito Petkovski believes that a consultative referendum should be held on the conditions imposed by Bulgaria on EU membership along with the upcoming local elections. According to him, the citizens as bearers of sovereignty should have the final say.

“People will go to the voting polls anyway, and to ask the citizens if they want, under these conditions that Bulgaria offers, to start negotiations to determine the negotiating framework. Only in that way the decisions of the Prime Minister will have credibility and support from the people, will ease his position. In the meantime, there will be a census at the end of September and we will see exactly how many will declare themselves Bulgarians,” said Petkovski.

At the same time, the party leader announced that the NSDP is open to citizens who do not have party affiliations.
