US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker told Sitel TV that negotiations for Macedonia with the European Union must start because the country is geographically and politically part of Europe.
A year ago, the EU confirmed that North Macedonia and Albania should start membership talks. That is still their position, but there is obviously an obstacle for which we are very disappointed and it must be overcome. I have full confidence that it will be, because Northern Macedonia is a European country,” Reeker said.
“What history has taught us is that we cannot change history, we can only change the future. But we also cannot change geography. We want to see this part of Europe even stronger, more prosperous and more secure. I am confident it will be so,” Reeker said.
