The request for increase of the minimum wage to 18,000 denars should be found today at a session of the Economic and Social Council, which according to the announcements, should be held at 3 pm.
According to the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM), this is the deadline, and if no agreement is reached, they announce a general strike. The Government says that the minimum wage should be increased, but the systemic solution should be sought through dialogue between the social partners. At today’s session, according to the announcements of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, the issue of changing the criteria for the minimum wage is expected to be raised.
The Government’s position is that the minimum wage will continue to rise, but believes that a solution should be found through dialogue that will be sustainable in the long run.
