Observance of 11th anniversary from President Gligorov’s death

Sunday marks 11 years since the death of the first President of the independent Republic of Macedonia Kiro Gligorov.

He died on January 1, 2012, in Skopje at his home at the age of 94.

In 1991, Gligorov led Macedonia in its peaceful independence from the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in which Gligorov held high government positions. On April 8, 1993, Gligorov spoke for the first time in the Macedonian language at the podium of the United Nations when the Republic of Macedonia became the 181st member of the UN.
