Hundreds of citizens came out en masse in front of the MCC plateau for a protest musical gathering in support of the institution. The musicians gathered informally for a concert under the motto “All for MKC” after the Skopje Mayor Arsovska dismissed the acting director Vancho Bogoev. He did not give in to the intense pressure from the local government to hire the musician Arben Shakiri, who has been showing interest in becoming the head of the MKC for several years. However, Arsovska appointed a new acting director, a graduated detective, who has no experience in the culture area and barely a few days of work experience. The Program Council of MKC says that his appointment is illegal, and the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption will initiate a procedure for this.
A few years ago, Arben Shaqiri also expressed ambitions to become the director of MKC, but the artists rose to their feet and the attempt failed. The MKC do not know why a cultural institution with a limited and small budget, which has been further cut by 92%, is the target of political games in recent years. They say they only want to work and affirm the independent scene in the country.
MKC recently celebrated half a century of work. Just a few months ago, Arsovska rewarded the director for his successful work, who has now dismissed him immediately. In addition to MKC, the Skopje Zoo and the PE Water Supply and Sewage also received new management staff.
