Convicted to life sentences planned to escape from Idrizovo prison through an underground tunnel

Several prisoners who were sentenced in the prison in the Idrizovo State Penitentiary, dug a tunnel to escape prison. The plan was conveyed to them by persons who told the police that an escape was undeway. They dug underground to get free, and the dark parts were lit with cables and lamps. The event was confirmed by the Ministry of Interior, and photos and video from the tunnel were also published.

“The Ministry of Interior, Public Security Bureau, Department for Suppression of Organized and Serious Crime in coordination with the National Security Agency prevented an organized escape from the Idrizovo Penitentiary. After receiving information that a group of at least 8 convicted persons who are serving prison terms in the Idrizovo, convicted of serious crimes with certain sentences of 10 years to life imprisonment, are preparing an escape by digging a tunnel, criminal operational activities were carried out to check the information, after which they are shared with the Administration for the Execution of Sanctions”, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.
