“One country – member – Bulgaria is not committed to its obligations as a member of the Council of Europe. For years, Bulgaria has refused to implement the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. There are 16 decisions of the Court related to the Macedonians in Bulgaria that are not implemented.
“Macedonians are banned from using and learning their mother tongue, their right to assembly and participation in elections is limited. These judgments must be enforced! The national constitution and the courts of Bulgaria cannot be above the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. When the domestic institutions failed to protect the human rights of the Macedonians in Bulgaria, they see Strasbourg as their hope for respect for basic human rights,” said VMRO-DPMNE vice-president Aleksandar Nikoloski during his address to the Council of Europe.
