In the course of 2022, 1,074 women victims of domestic violence were registered in the country, and despite campaigns and various measures to raise awareness, domestic violence as a phenomenon is still present in Macedonia, said the Women’s Forum of the Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP).
“We condemn the slowness in the reactions of the institutions and their dysfunctionality and urge them to take immediate action to shed light on the tragic event in Kochani. Broader social and legal reforms are needed to better protect women from such horrific events. What is shocking is the fact that the threats were reported several times to the police and to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kochani, from where the woman sought protection,” added the Forum.
