Ilir Meta reveals why he prefers VMRO-DPMNE to any Albanian party in Macedonia

Ilir Meta, who was the president of Albania from 2017 to 2022, the country’s prime minister from 1999 to 2002, and now a politician and leader of the Freedom Party, in an interview for “Special of the Day” on TV Shenja, revealed why he gave his support before the parliamentary elections of VMRO-DPMNE, and not of any of the Albanian parties.

“I had no intention of expressing sympathy or preference in the election contest for the Macedonian party, or for other parties in N. Macedonia. But it is natural that we cannot be indifferent: we are not dealing only with an internal issue of foreign policy, but with a choice that belongs to regional policy. I appreciated VMRO-DPMNE for their clear support of the Berlin process. But on the other hand, it must be said that VMRO-DPMNE had an attitude, with which it obeyed the ‘Open Balkans’… “, the TV channel quoted Ilir Meta.
