Court orders precautionary measures for former ombudsman suspected of abuse of office

The Skopje Basic Criminal Court ordered precautionary measures for Ixhet Memeti, the second suspect in the investigation related to the crime of “accepting a reward for unlawful influence” involving Supreme Court judge Nake Georgiev as the first suspect.
On Tuesday, a judge of a preliminary procedure at the Skopje Basic Criminal Court sentenced Supreme Judge Nake Georgiev to 30 days of detention, whose immunity was revoked by the Judicial Council.
There are suspicions that Memeti, along with Nake Georgiev, had influence by abusing the position of a member of the Council of Public Prosecutors in the case of a request for a bribe for extenuating circumstances for the former Novo Selo Mayor Boro Stojchev, known as “Boro Marlboro”. Georgiev was caught in the act when he received the money – 10,000 euros. Stojchev’s son previously reported to the police that Boro Stojchev was being asked for money.
