Metropolitan Timotej pays respects to St. Cyril – A light is not placed under a cover, but on a lighthouse so that it shines for everyone

We address them with love and respect, but what else should we do? Today we heard the words of Jesus that a light is not lit to be put under a cover, but is put on a lighthouse to give light to everyone in the house. And God did not light the lamp that he gave us through the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius to cover it, but to illuminate our life and be a light for our salvation.

Shall we put that lighthouse under cover? Shall we make him useless to us? Shall we not take the beacon that the holy Church gives to each of us as God’s blessing, to place it in a personal and high place in our lives, said the Debar-Kichevo Metropolitan Timotej at the prayer at the tomb of Saint Cyril in the Saint Clement basilica in Rome.

The prayer, which was led by Metropolitan Timotej and European Metropolitan Pimen, was attended by Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who leads the state-church delegation in Rome as part of the celebration of the Day of All-Slavic educators, the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius. The president and the delegation, as well as the attending, bowed before St. Cyril’s grave.

“Such a new star and such a new lighthouse for all Slavic peoples are the brothers St. Cyril and Methodius. The two Equal-to-the-Apostles saints are the greatest blessings for our people, because they are lights that give people a ray to see the unfathomable heaven of God. They are God’s pleasers and patrons of our people and are beacons given to us by God’s hand to illuminate all the paths in our life,” said Metropolitan Timotej.
