The State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) believes that 978 employees of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with the new systematization were deployed illegally during the election period, which is why it made a decision to launch an accountability initiative. Such a decision means an initiative to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for criminal proceedings. The SCPC members will submit the materials from the case, and further the Prosecutor’s Office will have to determine if there is room for criminal prosecution.

According to the SCPC member Servet Demiri, the allegations of the anonymous petitioner about violations of legal provisions during elections are founded because “these are actions that represent a risk of corruption and political influences during the election process”.

There deployments happened in February and March of this year, that is, during the election process for the presidential and parliamentary elections held on April 24 and May 8. The elections were announced on February 14 by the then Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski.
