Ilinden is not only a historic story or a historic dream, it is most of all a historic truth. Ilinden is our strongest call for action and unity today. Ilinden calls on all of us to keep fighting for our rights, our culture, our freedom, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said on Friday.
Mickoski says in a social media post that Macedonia today marks Republic Day, which marks the two biggest historical and statehood events – the Ilinden Uprising and the First Session of ASNOM.
“Take note carefully of the words in the Krushevo Manifesto. In addition to celebrating the idea of freedom, its biggest message is the call for unity. The Krushevo Republic was founded on that unity and everyone raised the banner of freedom in the name of that unity. The real question and dilemma today is – does this unity exists at a time when the fight has to be ongoing in order to declare victory. The fight is ongoing – reminding us that the fight for freedom, justice and for a better future requires perseverance, courage and unity. We should learn from them how to win the biggest victories, because you can lose a fight, but it is crucial to win your ultimate goal,” said Mickoski.
