In line with GDP growth and the collective agreement signed with the union representing teachers working in public education, teachers’ paychecks will be increased by some 12 percent in March, Macedonian Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska said in response to reporters’ questions on Wednesday.

“I had two meetings with SONK. We had constructive meetings and great understanding, but not only with SONK, but also individually with groups of teachers. I asked them both before and after the elections to have a little patience. I know what a salary means and I know what it means to live on a salary, but you know the debt of the Ministry, you know the debt of the state, so for this year we really do not have the opportunity to undertake any serious activity in that direction, and I, as a minister, do not I can allow my teachers to get a raise by 200-300 denars. I say my teachers because I’m responsible for them. However, serious discussions have been held in the Government and with the Minister of Finance, and in March 2025 they will receive a 10-12 percent increase, depending on how the GDP is moving and according to the collective agreement. I think it will be a 12 percent salary increase,” Minister Janevska said.
