Ixhet Memeti pleading guilty, an individual with long and influential experience in our state system, shakes the foundations of fragile justice in this country. During DUI’s 22-year-long reign, Mr. Memeti held important positions as Minister of Justice, Constitutional Judge and Ombudsman, becoming a figure representing the judiciary in our country. But this latest case confirms what we as a coalition have been condemning all the time: the irreparable and deep corruption in the judicial system, the ‘Worth It’ (VLEN) coalition accused on Saturday.
“Mr. Memeti pleading guilty, together with the judge of the Supreme Court, Mr. Nakje Georgiev, for a bribe of 10 thousand euros, in order to reduce the sentence of the former mayor of the Novo Selo Municipality Boro Stojchev is a bitter proof of the further reduction of citizens’ trust in the justice system,” added the coalition.
