Macedonian Ministry of Defense re-installed the memorial plaque with the names of the 10 dead defenders in the Karpalak area on the Skopje-Tetovo highway. Previously, it was demolished on August 9, 2024, a day after the 23rd commemoration of the tragedy during the 2001 military conflict, when a convoy of defenders was attacked by terrorists from the so-called ONA.
In the attack in which rocket launchers and heavy machine guns were used, young defenders, all from Prilep, who were headed to the barracks in Tetovo, were killed.
Since this memorial plaque was placed in the same place, it has been vandalized seven times, but not a single perpetrator has been discovered by the competent services.
During each annual commemoration, the associations of the defenders are asked to build a worthy memorial on this place that will remind of the great sacrifice made by the Macedonian defenders. And not like this, only wreaths and flowers to be placed on the highway bank. But unfortunately, nothing has been done so far, and there are only promises from previous governments.
