The public prosecutor from the Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office to the Appellate Court in Skopje filed an appeal against the verdict K. no. 1407/19 of the Skopje Basic Criminal Court in the Laskarci bus accident case, informed the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) on Saturday.
According to the public prosecutor, in this case, the first-instance court made an extremely significant judgment important for our criminal justice system and showed that no one can derogate and substitute the judicial role in the decision-making process.
“Through a critical evaluation of the evidence, individually and in their combination, the first-instance court did not allow the court verdict to depend only on a solitary and unsupported opinion of experts involved in the super-expert, who failed to form a clear position on key issues, and prolonged the main hearing for more than a year,” said public prosecutor Darko Jakimovski, highlighting the evidence based on which the Court correctly and completely established the factual situation and applied the Criminal Code when it found that the actions of all the accused contained all the essential elements of the criminal acts of which they have been declared guilty.
However, the appeal was filed due to the decision on the amount of criminal sanctions imposed on four of the defendants.
