DPMNE betrayed the teachers! They will not get a 12% wage increase in September. Education Minister Vesna Janevska has stated several times that the Government cannot provide money to increase teachers’ wages. With unjustified and irrational reasons, the Government avoids realizing this obligation towards educators. In the past years, DPMNE promised higher wages, incited strikes, even though teachers’ wages were increasing every year, SDSM MP Daniela Nikolova pointed out at a press conference on Sunday.
“Teachers and all citizens know that in the past 7 years, the Government led by SDSM has increased wages in education, cumulatively by over 55%. And in the years of health, economic and energy crisis, there was money for continuous salary increases in education. If in 2016 the teachers’ basic wage in primary education was MKD 21,100, as of September 2023 it amounts to MKD 33,640. If in 2016 the basic salary of teachers in secondary education was MKD 21,950, as of September 2023 it amounts to MKD 35,200. SDSM increased wages in higher education as well. Thus, if the wage of full-time university professors in 2020 was MKD 36,211, in 2024 it amounted to MKD 81,783. It is completely unjustified for the Government led by DPMNE to claim that there is no possibility to raise wages in education. SDSM remains to be the teachers’ partners in protecting their rights. SDSM will oppose the policies of this Government, which consciously wants to put teachers and education in general on the margins of society,” said MP Nikolova.
