Today marks the 114th anniversary of the birth of Mother Teresa (her real name is AnjezëGonxheBojaxhiu). She was born on August 26, 1910, at the then Pop Kochina street number 14, which was located on the current Macedonia square.
Mother Terese died in Calcutta, India, on September 5, 1997 after a several-years-long battle with heart and lung disease.
Two years after her death, Pope John Paul II began the diocesan phase of the beatification and canonization process, and on October 19, 2003, she received the title of Blessed Mother Teresa. She carried this title until she was declared a saint after the church officially determined that she performed a second miracle by curing a man from Brazil with multiple brain tumors.
