Green loans up by 15 percent

The growth of green loans in the portfolios of banks continues in the second quarter of 2024. According to the data of the National Bank, the growth of the so-called green loans amounts to MKD 2.6 billion or 2.8%, while on an annual basis the growth of these loans has slowed down and amounts to 14.9%. Compared to the end of 2019, when the collection and publication of this data began, green loans have increased by 2.8 times. These loans are intended for projects that support sustainable, environmental goals, or goals that contribute to the green transition in society, such as investments in new environmental technology.

In the second quarter of 2024, the amount of green loans in the banks’ balance sheets amounted to MKD 20,423 million. The state of loans approved to companies amounts to MKD 19,407 million, while to households it is MKD 1,016 million.
