Monday marks the start of the 2024/2025 school year for all students in elementary and high schools. According to Education Ministry’s data, the new school year will start for 245,000 elementary and high school students, down by 17,000 in the past seven years.
In the same period, the number of first-graders decreased by about 3,500 thousand. This is devastating and disappointing and is the result of bad policies, not only in education, but in all social segments, said the Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska at a press conference on Sunday.
The minister announced that the existing policies will be replaced by new and progressive ones, in the creation of which, as she said, all those affected will participate. For those policies to be implemented, Janevska added, a wider consensus will be ensured.
