Government awaits response from students regarding student meal proposal

The Macedonian Government is awaiting a response from students concerning a proposal to modify the subsidized student meal model. This issue, along with the matter of the bar exam (legal qualification exam) and potential solutions for it, was discussed during a two-hour meeting.

Responding to a reporter’s question during a visit to the Municipality of Gazi Baba on Friday, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said that the Government’s proposal for the student meal program was presented to the students. According to Mickoski, the students themselves agreed that this proposal represents a better solution than the current model.

“We held a constructive meeting that lasted two hours. We explained the Government’s proposal to them, and we believe it is a much better solution than the current system, a point on which they also agreed. Now, we are waiting for a response. We were promised that we would receive a draft version, reflecting what they intend to discuss with their fellow students, by the evening of that same day. We did not receive it. Today is the second day, and I hope we will receive it,” said Mickoski.

The Government has proposed to representatives of student parliaments, who met the day before yesterday with Prime Minister Mickoski, Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, and other government officials, an increase in the subsidized student meal allowance from the current MKD 3,500 to MKD 4,500 per month, the provision of additional discounts on food purchases, and the introduction of a dedicated digital service via the M.uslugi (M.services) app.
