A total of 174 citizens comprising 95 men and 79 women underwent free preventive screenings, including measurements of blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol, as well as an assessment of their risk for stroke. The screenings took place at a stand set up by the University Neurology Clinic on Macedonia Square in Skopje.
The clinic’s director Dr. Jovan Bozhinovski told the media that elevated blood pressure was recorded in 60 individuals (34.5%), high blood sugar levels were found in 34 individuals (19.5%), and elevated blood lipid levels were detected in 45 individuals (25.9%).
He noted that the participants represented all age groups, with a predominance of older individuals. In addition to Skopje, free preventive screenings were also conducted yesterday in Tetovo, Kavadarci, and Shtip. Regarding the availability of sufficient medication for patients with neurological conditions, Dr. Bozhinovski says that the necessary specific treatments are available for every neurological disease, supported by a dedicated budget for certain neurological conditions and the Ministry of Health’s program for rare diseases, and that there are no waiting lists.
“We are referring to specific neurological conditions and higher-cost medications; there are no waiting lists. This means that once a patient is diagnosed and the administrative procedures are completed, they receive the medication immediately. There is no shortage of medication for patients with neurological conditions,” added Dr. Bozhinovski.
