Mayor Gjorgjievski: Citizens have the right to know how their funds are planned and spent

Skopje Mayor OrceGjorgjievski, along with representatives from the city administration, held a meeting Friday with representatives from GRECO (Group of States against Corruption), focusing on the prevention of corruption and the strengthening of integrity and accountability at the local level.

“As the Mayor of Skopje, I stressed the importance of institutional cooperation and the exchange of best practices for the honest and responsible management of public funds. Citizens’ trust is earned through hard work, clear procedures, and a readiness to be held accountable for every decision made. Citizens have the right to know how their money is planned and where it is spent,” said Gjorgjievski.

The meeting addressed the need for greater accountability among municipal services and mayors, as well as the active involvement of the non-governmental sector in the preparation of financial plans and budgets.

Gjorgjievski highlights that the City of Skopje is dedicated to developing digital tools, which serve as one of the most effective mechanisms for preventing corruption.

“Through simpler procedures, more accessible information, and the ability to track processes, we are creating the conditions for a more transparent and accountable administration. Public funds are a trust that we must justify every single day, with every decision, and with every action,” said the capital’s mayor.
