The National Bank and the Government possess their own instruments, and with their help, we have full control over the situation regarding Alta Bank AD Bitola. There is absolutely no cause for concern. The objective is to save the bank, as it is a sound financial institution, Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoskisaid Friday.
When asked to comment on SDSM’s claim that neither of the two proposed models for Alta Bank would yield results, he reiterated that the Government and SDSM do not share the same ambition. According to him, the opposition party takes pleasure in bleak scenarios, whereas the government is working to find a solution, a buyer for the bank, because it believes the institution is, in fact, in excellent condition.
“They are hoping that citizens will not be compensated, following the precedent of the TAT case from the SDSM era, or the Eurostandard Bank case, also from the SDSM era. I have stated, and I stand by this, that every creditor and every depositor will be compensated down to the very last cent. This is because the vast majority of savings deposits are covered by the Deposit Insurance Fund, and the bank’s assets far exceed its liabilities. However, we are working to prevent this, to avoid the ‘bleak scenario’ that SDSM prays for every single day, by seeking to find a buyer. Over the next few days, together with the Governor and the Minister of Finance, we will hold meetings with several financial institutions that could potentially acquire the bank,” said PM Mickoski.
The PM points out that ‘the opposition, by leveraging the crisis imported from Serbia, hopes to gain relevance, transforming itself from a politically insignificant entity into a player that commands political attention.’ And that is why they attempt, through untruths, fabrications, and bleak scenarios, to mislead the citizens; yet, the reality is entirely the opposite. I therefore urge the citizens not to believe these falsehoods, much like what has happened many times in the past, with claims that we would bring in migrants, that the state was already bankrupt, and god knows what else. None of that happened, so they can rest assured it won’t happen this time either, adds Mickoski.
