Constitutional amendments are the step the country needs to take to continue the European integration process without the need for further political decisions, said European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos following a one-on-one meeting in Brussels Friday with Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs BekimSali.
During the meeting, the Growth Plan and the country’s European integration process were discussed, with Kos urging the Government to fulfill its obligation regarding the constitutional amendments.
“There aren’t many things that need to be done. While there is much to do, it essentially comes down to one step, the constitutional amendments. Once the constitutional amendments are adopted, we will be able to move forward without requiring any additional political decisions. Therefore, this is my appeal to the Government: please, take this step and fulfill your obligation. I am confident that we will then be able to move forward, in the best interest of your citizens,” Kos noted.
Kos assessed the current moment as an opportunity for Macedonia to make progress toward the EU, pointing to the advancements made by other Western Balkan countries.
