“Oncology 2” trial restarts; Vasev and Nuhiplead not guilty yet again

The “Oncology 2” trial involving the former medical and economic directors of the Skopje Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology Nino Vasev and NehadNuhi, charged with professional misconduct and financial crimes, restarted Monday at the Skopje Basic Criminal Court due to a change in the composition of the trial panel.

Judge SlavicaNaumova-Josifovska continues to preside over the case; however, the proceedings have restarted from the beginning due to the replacement of one of the judges on the trial panel. The trial for “Oncology 2” restarted in November 2025 due to a change in one of the jurors on the trial panel. At that time, the parties agreed that the material evidence already presented and the testimonies of witnesses already heard should simply be read into the record, rather than being presented again.

At the beginning of Monday’s hearing, the Court said that, during the previous session, the prosecution had submitted a list of additional evidence, including financial and material documentation, as well as requests involving the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology, the Ministry of Health, the Health Insurance Fund, and several suppliers.

AnetaBegova, the defense attorney for the second defendant, objected to the newly proposed evidence, pointing out that, as is well established, the Prosecution is required to submit its evidence at the time the indictment is filed.

In June 2025, the Criminal Court approved the indictment against the former directors of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Clinic, Nino Vasev and NehadNuhi, for abuse of office, fraud, and embezzlement committed between 2018 and 2022. According to the indictment, they procured medications illegally, concealed these actions through fictitious tenders, and misappropriated a portion of the therapy, thereby causing a loss to the budget of nearly EUR 36 million.

Another case dubbed “Oncology 1” is underway against Vasev and two other oncologists for the negligent treatment of patients.
