OverMKD 2.35 billion paid out in 4 months; October sees highest payout for maternity leave

Over MKD 621 million were paid out in October, including a record MKD 467 million for maternity leave allowances, bringing the total for the last four months to this figure. These numbers reflect a consistent commitment to upholding the rights of insured individuals and a clear determination to make timely payments the standard rather than the exception, the Macedonian Health Insurance Fund (HIF) said in a press release Monday.

The Health Insurance Fund (HIF) notes that October concluded with a total of MKD 621,383,663 paid out as wage compensation for temporary incapacity for work and maternity leave.

“Of the total amount, MKD 467,074,428 were paid out for maternity benefits, representing the highest monthly payout for this purpose during the period from July to October 2026. An additional MKD 154,309,235 was paid out for other types of sick leave benefits. However, a single month does not provide a complete picture of the Fund’s operations. Between July and October, the Fund paid out a total of over MKD 2.35 billion for sick leave and maternity leave, of which more than MKD 1.66 billion went toward maternity benefits. These figures reflect the financial dimension of one of the Fund’s most critical obligations, ensuring the continuous exercise of the statutory rights of insured persons,” the HIF said.

The release further notes that the October payout for maternity benefits saw an increase of more than 25 percent compared to September, confirming the heightened volume of payments processed for this category of insured persons.
