President Siljanovska-Davkova: The Hungarian Revolution is a permanent symbol of the fight for freedom and dignity

Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova took part in a ceremony in Budapest marking the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

As part of an international program, she attended a formal session of the Hungarian National Assembly, addressed by its Speaker Ágnes Forsthoffer, Hungarian President András Baka, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council António Costa, and Norwegian Minister of Finance Jens Stoltenberg, the President’s Office said.

According to Siljanovska-Davkova, the Hungarian Revolution is a permanent symbol of courage, freedom-loving and dignity of a nation. It is an honor, she said, to attend and give credit to this historic event, important not only for Hungary, but also for Europe.

“It’s nice to hear the EU’s high representatives saying that the Hungarian Revolution has had a major contribution to building democracy, that it’s worth fighting for Europe, our common home,” said the President.

Siljanovska-Davkova attended a gala at the Hungarian State Opera and a reception at the Museum of Fine Arts, hosted by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar.

On Friday, President Siljanovska-Davkova attended a working lunch, organized by President Baka for the heads of delegations, reads the press release.

“The President thanked for the principled and vocal support of Hungary of the Macedonian EU integration process and its active engagement as part of the Visegrad Group. She stressed the importance of a credible process of enlargement, based on merits related to the Copenhagen criteria,” adds the press release.
