Macedonia ranked among the European markets with the highest growth in passenger air traffic this August, according to the air traffic report for August 2026 released today by ACI EUROPE (Airports Council International).
In August, Skopje Airport recorded a 34.8% increase in passenger traffic compared to August 2025, making it one of the fastest-growing “medium” airports in Europe (defined as handling between 1 and 10 million passengers annually). In this category, Skopje ranked fifth in terms of growth, trailing Bratislava (+75.9%), Trapani (+52.3%), and Podgorica (+47.6%), but ahead of Palermo (+32.3%).
According to the report, the country was among the non-EU markets experiencing the highest growth rates in August.
Airports in markets outside the EU+ area, the report notes, also showed significant variations in passenger traffic trends; this reflects differing levels of exposure to geopolitical events, as well as stronger underlying demand growth in less developed aviation markets. Airports in Macedonia (+34.8 percent), Montenegro (+28.6 percent), Albania (+20.7 percent), Israel (+19.5 percent), Armenia (+14.2 percent), Moldova (+12.6 percent), and Uzbekistan (+10.5 percent) recorded double-digit growth, reads the report.
Turkey, the largest market in this group, maintained a positive trend with growth of 4.4 percent.
