Director of the University Clinic for Children’s Diseases Rexhep Memedi, regarding the allegations of injury to the four-month-old infant who was hospitalized at the Clinic, stated that there was no intention on the part of the nurse to inflict injury, but the bruises on the arm were caused by drawing an intravenous blood sample for analysis, and that no disciplinary action will be taken against the nurse. Earlier, Macedonian Minister of Health Arben Taravari said that a disciplinary procedure has been initiated for two people, one of whom is a nurse.

“There was absolutely no intention on the part of the nurse to cause injury, but those hematomas, i.e. bruises on the right hand, occurred during the procedure of drawing an intravenous blood sample for analysis on July 11, which was carried out by two nurses, one nurse holds the child’s arm, upper arm and forearm, while the other nurse takes the blood sample. As a result of the mechanical pressure, hematomas appeared on the right upper arm and forearm,” said Memedi.
