Ohrid resident D. N., a patient facing a serious heart disease, was transported by government plane to the University Clinical Center in Berlin, Germany, government sources informed on Wednesday.
The patient had previously been treated at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic for a long time and was qualified for a heart transplant. Due to the deterioration of his health condition and the need for urgent treatment, and due to the lack of a suitable donor in the country, a procedure for treatment abroad was urgently initiated.
The transport was carried out via the Health Insurance Fund (HIF) and with the support of the Macedonian Ministry of Health.
The German medical center accepted the patient for preparation for the surgical procedure. They are now waiting on a suitable heart donor for the transplant.
