Electricity price will hold steady through the end of the year, with the Government striving to maintain the same rates into January, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday.
“Maintaining energy stability is a priority for this Government. We are doing this amidst the most severe global energy crisis in living memory. Across the region and throughout Europe, energy prices are hitting record highs. In some European countries, the price of diesel and unleaded gasoline has already exceeded 3 euros per liter. Here, thanks to the Government’s policies, we remain below 1.6 euros per liter. We intend to continue this approach regarding electricity as well; our priority is to keep the price stable and prevent any increases. In fact, we have maintained this stance across three regulatory periods. AD ESM is not the only entity seeking a price adjustment—there are several other companies involved, including the system operator and the distributor, EVN, which is a private company. Perhaps you should ask them, too, about their intended course of action,” Mickoski said in response to a reporter’s question following the opening of a new primary school in Chento. Mickoski was adamant that the Government would strive to maintain the current price, ensuring that the price of electricity would not increase until December.
“Let’s wait to see what the energy companies have to say regarding January 1st, and then we shall see. I cannot prejudge the decision of the Regulatory Commission,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Macedonian PM also noted that no changes were planned for the electricity tariff blocks.
