Skopje air pollution at unsafe levels, reaches critical heights at night

Skopje air is more dangerous to breathe at night, according to data provided by the Ministry of Environment. However, monitoring sites in Centar, Gazi Baba, Karposh, and Lisiche have recently been registering PM10 levels higher than 50µ/gm3 even during the day.

According to measurement summaries, the Lisiche monitoring site registered severe levels of air pollution on Oct. 23, 24, 26, and 27.

On Oct. 23, the air in Lisiche was most polluted between 7 pm and 3 am. The next day, Oct. 24, the air was most polluted between 6 pm and 4 am. On Oct. 26, the air was most polluted between 7 pm and 1 am, and a day later, on Oct. 27, the air was most polluted between 6 pm and 1 am.

The Gazi Baba monitoring site, as well, recorded high levels of nighttime air pollution on Oct. 23, 24, and 27, between 7 pm and 2 am.

Air pollution in Karposh also rose above permitted levels in Kichevo, Tetovo, Gostivar, Veles, Kavadarci, and Kumanovo.
