Theater director and former Open Society head Vladimir Milchin reacted to the statement of Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zakharieva that “the acknowledgement of Bulgarian roots puts the issue of the Macedonian minority on an ad-act basis”.

“Censuses in Bulgaria have shown that there is Macedonian minority. This raises the question of how they disappeared or how and why the number decreased. I know the answer. Zakharieva knows it, but she does not like it. She would like to alienate it. How ‘European’ of her!” commented Milchin, whose father Ilija was the art director and director of the District Macedonian National Theater in Blagoevgrad in 1947-1948.
