The Bulgarian co-chair of the Joint Multidisciplinary Expert Commission for Historical and Educational Issues between Macedonia and Bulgaria Angel Dimitrov believes that the 12th meeting of this body held online ended without making any progress.

“We are still stuck in the tenth century and we haven’t made one step forward,” Dimitrov told a briefing at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

According to him, the dispute over Tsar Samuel and the events from the period of the end of the First Bulgarian Empire has not been resolved yet, because the Macedonian side was completely reluctant to mention that the common history began, as he says, in the Middle Ages and due to “double standard in the assessment of Samuel, depending on whether it is about joint celebrations or the texts in the Macedonian textbooks.
