The United States expects to continue cooperating with North Macedonia in areas of common interest, the US State Department told VOA’s Macedonian Service, when asked to comment on the resignation of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev after Sunday’s runoff local elections.
“The US Embassy is monitoring developments following the second round of local elections, including the announcement of the resignation of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev,” the State Department spokesperson said.
“The United States considers North Macedonia a valued and trusted partner in the region, and looks forward to continuing cooperation with the Government of North Macedonia in areas of common interest as it continues to make progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration,” reads the statement.
