The Ministry of Health informed that the first case of infection with the Omicron variant of coronavirus SarsCoV2 has been detected in Macedonia on Friday.

The sequencing was done in the “Zan Mitrev” private hospital in Skopje, with a man who arrived in the country from Great Britain. It is a reinfection, i.e. the patient had recovered from COVID-19 in January 2021 and was then asymptomatic.

Following the onset of the disease, the patient received two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. He had a second COVID-19 positive test two days ago, after which it was confirmed that he was an omicron strain. The patient currently has a mild clinical picture and is being treated in isolation at home.
