Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski wants a quick but unelected solution with neighboring Bulgaria to open accession talks with the European Union. He emphasized this in an interview with MIA given after his first visit to Brussels since taking office, in which he referred to the talks he had at the EU and NATO headquarters in Brussels, as well as Macedonia’s views on the Ukrainian crisis.

“I say that we need a quick solution, given that we deserve the opening of accession talks with the EU, but we certainly do not need a hasty solution because the solution that will be reached should be the basis for the future ahead of us, both for good neighborly relations and conducting negotiations and full membership in the EU,” said Kovachevski.

In Brussels, Kovachevski said that he asked the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for a stronger engagement in unblocking the European integration, and after the meeting with the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg, he says has received many positive signals and commitment from the institutions to start accession talks with the EU.
