At the second reading on Wednesday, the Parliament adopted the amendments to the Law on Minimum Wage, which define the conditions for the minimum wage of 18,000 denars. The amendments should start applying with the March salary that will be paid in April. The law on the minimum wage was passed with 90 votes in favor, none against and no abstentions.
With the legal changes, about 80,000 workers are expected to receive an increased minimum wage in April. 16 million euros are provided in the budget to help companies increase the minimum wage, which will be used to cover the difference in contributions in the first year.
The changes also change the methodology for the annual harmonization of the minimum wage, so there will be an ongoing harmonization of the minimum wage with the annual growth of the average wage and the cost of living. The minimum wage must not be lower than 57% of the average wage.
