MFA: There is a decision to close the airspace, hence the ban on Lavrov’s plane

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the request of the Russian Embassy for special approval for the use of airspace for flights to Belgrade, because the Government has already made a general decision to close the airspace of Macedonia for airlines owned by the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday, regarding the decision not to allow flight over our airspace on the plane with which Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was to travel to Serbia.
    Decisions to ban Lavrov’s plane from flying over its airspace were also made by Bulgaria and Montenegro, due to which the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to Belgrade, scheduled for today and tomorrow, was canceled.
    According to announcements, Lavrov was scheduled to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković, Parliament Speaker Ivica Daćić and the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirij, during his two-day stay in Belgrade.
