SSO: 28,516 people died last year, 20.6% of them as a result of COVID-19

According to the data of the State Statistical Office, in the Republic of North Macedonia the number of deaths last year increased by 10.7% compared to the previous year and amounted to 28,516 deaths. Most of them are male, 15,155 or 53.1% of the total number of deaths. The number of infant deaths is 85, and their share in the total number of deaths is 0.3% per 100 deaths.

The average age of male deaths is 71.6 years, i.e. 75.2 years in females, or 3.6 years higher average age is recorded in women.

The largest share are the deaths from diseases of the circulatory system, according to ICD-10 (code I00-I99), in 35.9% of the total number of deaths, followed by the cases in which the cause of death is the COVID-19 pandemic (code U07) with 20.6%.
