The average age of employees in the bakery industry is 57 years old. When they retire, there will be no one to replace them. Young people have no interest at all in the baking profession, nor are they interested in being owners of bakeries, shows the latest analysis of the Economic Chamber of N. Macedonia.
The situation is alarming, and it is further complicated by the fact that some of the processes in this industry cannot be automated to compensate the staff.
“The problem is serious and should be solved systematically and institutionally. One of the options is to foresee subsidizing the employers or workers who will choose these occupations in the bakery industry, because in the future period there may be a blockage in operations and an increase in prices,” pointed out Natasha Janevska with the Chamber.
