The Special Anti-Terrorist Unit “Tiger” is celebrating its 42nd anniversary on Monday at the Ilinden barracks. On March 13, 1981, the Unit for Special Tasks under the name “Tiger” was established for the first time in the Ministry of Interior within the framework of the then Republican Secretariat for Internal Affairs of the SR Macedonia.
Its primary purpose is securing public figures, handling crises, anti-terrorism, sabotage actions, infiltrating behind enemy lines, securing the ground, preparing the ground for military actions of other military state structures, apprehending and arresting criminals or persons wanted by the law, diving, retrieving drowning victims, etc. The unit was upgraded with a military method for resolving military conflicts outside of an urban environment.
